2011 Pittsburgh Presidents' Cup Champions
A great team effort and heart stopping action, resulted in the Kitchener Jr. Rangers Minor Atom MD Blue being crowned Champions at the 2011 Pittsburgh Presidents' Cup Feb 19-21. After going 3-0-1 in the round robin, the Jr. Rangers advanced to the finals in 1st place to face the Pittsburgh Ice Miners. Having tied them the previous day, we knew it would be a hard fought game.
Even though we dominated in shots and chances, we were up against great goaltending and found ourselves down 2-0 going into the 3rd period. Two quick goals in the first few minutes of the 3rd and it was all tied up with 10 minutes to play. A late goal by Pittsburgh put them ahead 3-2 and with 1:45 to play, we had a face off in their end and pulled our goalie to gain the extra attacker. The strategy worked, tieing the game 3-3 with 47 seconds left to play.
In the 5 minute sudden death overtime, we attacked aggressively and with 2:45 left to play, we scored the winner in dramatic fashion to win the game and tournament. Congratulations boys on a great tournament and a never give up attitude.
