Minor Peewee AAA Champions
This past weekend the 2002 AAA Rangers participated in the Rochester Invitational Tournament in Rochester, New York. The team went a perfect 4-0 in round robin play beating Boston Northstars, Rochester Americans, Boston Rangers and the Kingston Frontenacs.
Moving onto semi final action, in a gruelling affair, Rangers were able to hang on and beat the Rochester Americans 3-2 and move to the tournament final Sunday afternoon against the Rochester Monarchs. In a thriller, with the Monarchs having a 3-1 lead late in the third period, the Rangers mounted a comeback and tied the game with team captain Luke Munroe scoring two goals sending the game into overtime. The play in overtime was cautious until Ranger winger Bobby Leis got sprung, a determined Leis made no mistake placing the puck over the Monarch goalie giving the Rangers an exhausting and emotional win. Team highlights from the tournament win was the timely and stellar goaltending duo of Jesse Forwell and Vance Meyer, the solid, steady play by our defencemen and a hard working, relentless group of forwards.
