Final Game of the Season Against London Green!
In the last game of the year, Blue was looking to end on a high note. As the game began it was evident that this would be epic!
From the first drop of the puck, there was no doubt that Blue was here to play! A strong forecheck and solid puck movement from the D allowed Team blue to mount an immediate attack on the Green team from London. Many chances were produced when the Blue players caused turnovers in the neutral zone and moved the puck smartly into the Green zone. Despite outplaying their rivals from London for the entire period, a bouncy puck and a lucky shot found the net behind the Blue tender. The period would end 1-0 for the opponent but every Blue player and coach knew this was our game if we stuck to the game plan.
The second period would be much of the same from Blue. Moving the puck, skating hard, and winning physical battles allowed Blue to continue its pressure on team Green. Half way through the frame Blue would get on the board when A few good passes and puck battles won sprung a Blue forward who made no mistake!. 1-1. Only minutes later, Blue would again bulge the twine on a ferocious attack, a couple quick passes, and a hard drive to the net to bang in a rebound. 2-1 Blue! As the period ended, each player knew that this was our game if they continued to follow the game plan.
With 15 minutes to go and the potential to move into 5th place, each member of Blue dug deep. Green did not go away and knew they were in a game!! As the period wore on, Blue began to slow down a little and paid for it when they struggled to clear the puck out of their end. A few turnovers while trying to leave our zone ended in Green having some good scoring chances but Blue's goalie was equal to the task! Half way through the period it looked like Blue had regained their form from the first 2 periods but that was short-lived as Green kept coming and more scrambling and bad decisions with the puck allowed them to cycle the puck in the Blue end. Some penalty trouble late in the frame added to the scrambly nature of Blue's game in the later stages of the period but no damage would be done as Blue's penalty killers did a good job shutting down the Green surge. With only a minute and a half to go Green pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker but again Blue's defence stood up and neutralized the Green attack.
In the end, a 2-1 win was a sweet ending to a tough road to the play-offs! Not only do the boys on this team never quit but they have proven that even though they started out as the second group of players picked for the seeded A/AA loop, they belong here! Great job this year and remember that no matter what happens in the next month, no one can take away what you have accomplished this year and how much you have developed! Go Blue!!
