Round 1 - LLFHL 2016/2017
The first round of the 2016 -2017 LLFHL playoffs are complete and what a round it was!

After 22 regular season games, the Kitchener Lady Rangers Midget “A’s” opened the first round of the Central West Division playoffs against the Stratford Aces. The Aces finished 2nd overall having won both regular season matchups against the Lady Rangers. The ladies travelled to Stratford for the opening game and continued their tournament style play. The opening period saw the ladies have several great scoring opportunities with consistently applied pressure. A momentary missed coverage assignment had the Aces going up by one heading into the break. Remaining strong in the third, a great determined net drive tied the game at "one" and a beautifully tipped shot put the ladies up "by one" late in the third. Despite the extra attacker, the ladies left Stratford with a hard earned two points.

Less than twenty four hours later, the Aces and Lady Rangers met at high noon at the Activa Sports Complex for game two of the series. The ladies continued their strong play and although outshot, did not fall into the “chaos” of some good Stratford pressure. With both teams battling hard, the ladies capitalized on a Stratford pinch with no F3, leading to a “2” on “0” rush. A beautiful, low “five hole” shot put the ladies up by one with three minutes left. With some good, controlled pressure, smart puck movement and “ragging”, the ladies held on for the game “W” and a first round series win.

As discussed, the ice doesn’t care what place you finished in. It only cares about who works the hardest and who wants it more. It’s not what you “did in the past” (or where you finished) that counts. It’s what you’re doing “now”.  And what you are doing “now” is playing very sound, smart Lady Ranger Hockey.

Thanks to all the Aces ladies for a great first round. Best of luck in Provincial Qualifiers.

On behalf of Bill, Dave, Sarah and Tim, congratulations on your first round win. Everyone had a role to play and did so with resolve. We are proud of EVERYONE’s efforts!!

Welcome to round two!
