SKILLS COMPETITION (From Tournament Organisers)

For all the divisions (Novice, Atom, Peewee, Bantam and Midget) we are offering a fun skills competition.  It will be just for fun and have no bearing on the outcome of the tournament.  Also, we will be going with the times recorded at the ice by the helpers involved.  Inside each of your coaches’ packages (that you pick up when you sign in for the first game) there will be a sheet to record the players that you are selecting for each of the Skills, please hand in as soon as possible once filled out so we can organize the numbers and players.  There will only be a maximum total of 4 players from each team involved. (1 goalie and 3 skaters). No obligation to be involved in the skills, purely optional. Hopefully, this explains the skills.

1)    THE FASTEST SKATERS:  two skaters will go at one time.  They will be lined up on opposite sides of the middle circle – standing at the blue line.  The whistle will blow and they will skate around behind the net and a do a full lap of the ice.  They will be timed with timers which will have started when the whistle goes.  The quickest time based upon the times taken on the ice by the helpers will determine the winner.

2)    THE BEST SCORER and 3) THE BEST GOALIE:  for these skills there will be 4 nets – one placed into each corner of the ice with a goalie in the net.  The player will go down on the goalie as if in a shoot-out.  The girl who scores the most goals on the goalie will be the winner based on 5 chances given.  If a there is a tie at this point those tied will move on to a second round (starting numbers again) using the goalies that have saved the most.  The goalie who gets scored on the least in the final round will be the winner (unless a definite winner is declared in the first round).

3)  THE BEST STICK HANDLER:  for this there will be 8 pylons set up down the ice and the girls will take turns (one girl on either side of the ice).  They will take a puck down the ice in and out of the cones.  The girl with the fastest times will be pronounced the winner.
