Boston Tribute

As the Major Atom AAA’s hit the road this weekend to open their 2018-2019 season "Kitchener’s Hockey Ambassadors" look to continue their impressive pre-season form.

The Major Atom AAA team headed to Boston at the end of August to open their season with heritage and remembrance in mind. The weekend was rooted in the lore of Boston and in the shadows of the famous Boston Kraut Line of Kitchener residents Milt Schmidt, Bobby Bauer and Woody Dumart. Not enough can be said of how spectacular this weekend was for the boys and their families with memories that will last a lifetime. Everyone really came together as a team as we now look forward to what will be a memorable season. The boys had a great time off the ice, it was their play on the ice that was really impressive.

Thursday saw the boys take in a game at Boston’s iconic Fenway Park. After we enjoyed watching the Red Sox beat the Cleveland Indians the boys had a chance to go down onto the field and run the bases. The Sox win seemed to inspire the Major Atoms to carry on a winning streak all weekend long!

The tournament started Friday with two convincing wins. The boys hit their stride early with some outstanding offensive and defensive play coupled with the spectacular play of the new dynamic duo in Major Atom AAA goaltending, Aiden Leite and Jake Howard.

Saturday brought more highlights as the boys started with an early morning behind the scenes private tour of the Boston Gardens. After this amazing tour the boys headed for a quick team lunch and were off to their first game of the day where they were treated to a pregame talk with former Bruins star Bob Sweeney. The boys took the advice of the former NHLer and headed for a win and tie against some stiff competition from a fellow Canadian team from New Brunswick. After finishing Friday and Saturday with 3 wins and a tie we were off to the semi-finals on Sunday.

Sunday was no different the boys headed into the finals after a convincing power house win in the semis.  The boys then turned in an impressive full team effort to finish the weekend off in a shut-out win as Champions! Highlights of their play over the weekend consisted of 3 shut outs, an eye watering 46 goals for and only 7 against in 6 games. Most importantly the team came together and cemented friendships in a common goal to give it their best this season. We look forward to demonstrating our character and commitment this year as we kick off an amazing season of honouring our past and truly representing the Major Atom AAA's - "Kitchener's Hockey Ambassadors"
