Perspective - Roger Bannister
Submitted By Jeremy Mervyn on Tuesday, May 7, 2019
As we progress through the tribulations of this camp, please allow the following to help with perspective...

It was on May 6th, 1954 that Roger Bannister achieved something which had previously never been done: the sub four minute mile. At the age of 25, he broke through the "invisible" barrier of what is still considered an incredible event, despite the record having been beaten many times since. Soon after, Bannister would leave running for a career in medicine. Years later, when asked, Bannister would say that he didn't consider the four minute mile as his greatest life achievement, but his 40 years working as a neurologist, his family, and 14 grandchildren. He would add, "Those are real achievements." (A. Flores - 23 March 2018)
