The Lady Rangers travelled to the Sleeman Center in Guelph
to take on the Gryphons in a rare Thursday night game.
Off to a strong start in the first the ladies showed some good hustle and D-Zone coverage. A goal mouth scramble with a puck that was “thought to be covered” but wasn’t gave the Gryphon’s an early lead. The ladies continued their hard-working play and capitalized on a last second PP opportunity to tie the game at one. A well-executed offensive zone faceoff produced a low defense “shot on net rebound” goal to put the ladies up by one heading into the break.
A solid third period of play with continued good coverage and great breakout choices and options had the Gryphon’s pulling their goalie with over two minutes left in the third. After “several” attempts (just trying to keep the fans entertained) the ladies finally found the empty net to seal the “W”.
It was a nice all-around effort tonight from all three lines doing what we (by this point in the season) expect should be done. It’s really not rocket science. When you take care of the “foundation” parts of the game, the rest will often take care of itself. Continue to support those pieces of the foundation that will make you successful.
