The
Lady Rangers travelled down Highway 24 to play an early evening game against
the Brantford Ice Cats.
Picking up where they left off against the Roadrunners (although with slightly fewer players) the ladies continued their strong start in the first with nine first period shots on goal. A little “lull” in the second had the “newly minted” forwards turned defense earning their keep as the Ice Cats had some sustained pressure in the Rangers D-Zone. Tied at “zero” heading into the break, it would be another great “low shot rebound” (are you sensing a theme here??) that would have the ladies scoring the games only goal. With the net empty for well over two minutes, the ladies held on for a well-earned short bench “W”.
At the beginning of the season one of the coaching staff’s expectations was that “Our systems of play REQUIRE everyone to understand all five on ice positions and responsibilities. You will need to be versatile. Systems play results in forwards playing defense and defense playing forward during shifts / periods / games throughout the season”. We certainly appreciated the three of you “stepping up to play back” on defense last night.
Ladies it was another game of many great choices and options, well run D-Zone and N-Zone faceoffs and well executed O-Zone play. The only remaining thing that could have been better was hitting that thing called “the net”. Thanks again to everyone for all their efforts while “playing short”.
