Blue Puts Together 35 Minutes of Great Hockey!
Team Blue beat the Burlington Bulldogs 4-1 on Sunday afternoon, in what may have been their most complete game of the year, so far. The only thing missing from our season, up until now, was playing all three periods. Sunday afternoon we put that behind us and outskated a good Bulldogs team from start to finish.
After a few near misses, Wentz got us going with a blast from the point, 6 minutes into the game.
Our forwards caused many turnovers, with persistent forechecking, and we continued to get chances off the turnovers. Tristan, Mac, Josh, Cliner, Olivia and Robbie were key to our victory by not allowing Burlington to get anything going from the back end. Cliner got our second goal 6 minutes into the second period on a typical Cliner 2/3 of the ice rush. Ody got him started with a nice pass to his stick.
Our new pairings on D saw E with Zam and Cooker with Wentz. They played like they'd been together all season, keeping the puck away from The Shark, and feeding the puck up to our forwards. Jack and Ody kept their pairing together and their strong defensive play. Moose, Shaun and Jared continued their hard work, winning faceoffs, pucks from the opponent and feeding pucks to the front of the net.
Moose scored our 3rd goal shortly after Burlington got to within 1, halfway through the 3rd, with an assist from Josh. Moose also finished the scoring with an empty netter 26 seconds from the end. (or was the game over because they didn't start the clock? Steve please get on that!)
A great effort by all, that cemented our early playoff first place position.
We'll see everyone again on Tuesday as our roadtrip continues with a trip down Hwy 6 to Brantford.
Go Blue!
