Not Good, But Good Enough!
Team Blue clinched a spot in the Alliance East Finals, and the Alliance Championship, with a 5-3 win over the Waterloo Ice Wolves on Saturday afternoon. Some are pretty to watch, some are not. This was not, but we still did enough to win the game.
Team Blue seemed out of sync most of the game. Team Blues' coaching staff seemed out of sync most the game. The only thing that was working properly was the cheering coming from our parents, siblings, grand parents and friends, who never doubted the outcome.
Waterloo seemed to be a little hungrier for the puck and moved it well. They played like a desperate team - we need to have some of that in our upcoming games. Blue got on the board first with a nice play from Cooker to Jared behind the net, then out front to Cliner, for the shot and score. Waterloo came back with 2 of their own in just over a minute and Blue found themselves trailing for the first time in a long time. Moose got us back on track on the first shift of the 3rd from Cliner and Ryan, and Josh followed that up with a goal 8 seconds later from Cliner. Unfortunately we couldn't hold the lead as Waterloo scored just over a minute later for a 3-3 tie. Moose scored the game winner with just over 3 minutes left, from Olivia and Robbie, and Robbie scored an empty netter.
This was not Team Blue's best performance. Our goalies, our D, our forwards and our coaches need to pick their game up a notch to have continued success in the playdowns. Remember, when things get tough on the ice, go back to basics and play as a team.
We look forward to playing St. Catherines in the next round, and showing everyone the real Team Blue. Stay tuned for dates and times.
Go Blue!
