Christmas Silver
The Kitchener Lady Rangers brought home a "Christmas Silver" in the 35th annual Mississauga Chiefs Christmas Tournament.

The ladies travelled to Mississauga over the holidays to play in the 35th annual Mississauga Chiefs Christmas Tournament. Opening against the Cambridge Road Runners the ladies got off to a sluggish start in a penalty filled 1st. A better 2nd and stronger 3rd ended with a 0 – 0 tie. Finding their legs after the Road Runners game, the ladies opened their second tournament game against the Mississauga Chiefs, scoring in a season record “7 seconds”. Our “hats” were off to Ms. Young for her play during this game and although the score ended in favor of the Rangers “3 – 1”, the ladies actually managed to score all four goals (remember we only want to score on ourselves in practice!!). Game three was a very determined, compete game against the Stoney Creek Sabers. After going down 1 – 0 in the third, the ladies battled back to tie the game at 1 – 1. It is this type of “never give up” play that will serve you well in playoff’s and playdowns. Ending round robin play, the ladies played the Brampton Canadettes. Although the start was slow, a smart, consistent level of good play had the ladies taking 1st overall and advancing to the tournament finals.

The final game against the Sabers bore no resemblance to the round robin. The ladies had great intensity, sustained effort, killed several early penalties and generated scoring opportunity. Down by one midway through the third, the ladies battled back to tie it at 1 – 1 before a late Sabers goal (and an empty netter) left the Rangers with their “Christmas Silver”. Our congratulations to the Sabers!

While you were “bridesmaids” for the third time this season, please remember what the true purpose of the tournament was. Bill, Ken, Sarah and I were extremely pleased with all your efforts. Congratulations to our tournament MVP’s Ms. Aubin, Ms. Bassanese, Ms. Lackenbauer, Ms. Piitz and Ms. Young, as well as our “skittles” players of the game Ms. Beacom, Ms. Dolfi, Ms. Feledi, Ms. Lackenbauer and Ms. Schroder.

Thanks to Brampton, Cambridge, Mississauga and Stoney Creek for five competitive games of hockey.

On behalf of all the Lady Rangers Bantam “A” players, parents and staff, we wish all other LLFHL teams a Safe and Happy New Year!
