36th Annual Mississauga Chiefs Christmas "Silver"
The Kitchener Lady Rangers Midget “A’s” travelled to Mississauga to play in the 36th Annual Mississauga Chiefs Christmas Classic.

After a slow first period start against the Brampton Canadettes in game #1, the ladies settled in and played some of their better hockey to date. A late third period goal against gave the ladies their first point of the tournament. Heading into day two, the ladies played both Mississauga Chiefs teams. Game #2 had the ladies taking a two goal lead into the third before the Chiefs struck for one. With three points heading into game #3, the ladies played smart hockey and were rewarded with a 3 – 0 “W” and a berth in the finals.

An early morning phone call had the coaching staff “practicing what they preached” about embracing chaos. Down with a goaltending injury already, an overnight sickness left the net “empty” for the mornings final.  Relief came from a very capable Ms. Taylor who played an amazing game of hockey. Up by a goal with just under a minute remaining, the Mississauga Chiefs tied things up with an extra attacker. Five minutes of OT would solve nothing. Stopping 29 out of 30 shots is a great game no matter how you slice it. Unfortunately for the ladies, our “six shooters” fell just short with Mississauga finally scoring on their “sixth” shot.

The coaching staff would like to thank all the ladies for their efforts in Mississauga. Remembering what the tournament was for, we are hopeful that “F3” is no longer an issue heading into January. You all played great hockey and earned a well-deserved silver!

Many thanks to the Brampton Canadettes (1-1), Mississauga Chiefs 750 (2-1 round robin; 1-2 overtime shootout final) and the Mississauga Chiefs 766 (3-0) for four great games of hockey.

On behalf of Bill, Dave, Sarah and Tim, congratulations on your second tournament medal of the season!
