Oakridge Classic: Semi Finals
Sunday February 19th
Eagles VS Oakridge
It was a tense semi-final game, as the Eagles faced off against the undefeated Oakridge A8. The nervousness could be felt in the dressing room before the start of the game. But the boys hit the ice ready to bring their best game.
The first half of the period the Eagles were having a hard time settling in and gave up a goal at the 6:58 mark. #9 Hancock came in on a breakaway but couldn’t beat the goalie. Then #66 Nanuti made a great pass to #15 Peplow, but again, couldn’t get it in the net. Finally at 3:59 #11 Bell received a pass from #16 Horn and put it past the goalie, to open up the scoring for the Eagles.
Heading into the second period the score was tied and 1. At 7:44 Oakridge took the lead 2-1. The Eagles started to amp up their game, and #11 Bell took a 2 minute penalty fighting for the puck along the boards. Oakridge capitalized on the power play scoring their 3rd goal just 13 seconds in. Only 9 seconds later, after getting out the penalty box, #11 Bell redeemed himself by scoring another goal, his second of the game, pulling the Eagles within 1.
With a 15 minute 3rd period left, the boys were going to have to dig deep to come back and finish out the game. Soon in, #91 Banton fed the puck to #11 Bell, but he just hit the side of the net. He was really searching for his Hat Trick. At 9:20 #11 Bell ripped another one passed the goalie, for his third of the game. HAT TRICK!!! The Eagles continued to put on the pressure and had many near chances, but just couldn’t get the win in regulation time.
Heading into overtime. The Eagles had 5 mins of 3 on 3 to win the game. The Eagles came out flying and had control of the puck right from the start. At 4:10 #66 Nanuti slid a shot under the pad of the Oakridge goalie, for the win. Goal assisted by #14 Gavin.
Eagles are headed to the finals!!!!
Final Score: 4-3 Eagles
Later in the locker room #91 Banton was awarded the 3rd Star Trophy-ette. #66 Nanuti received the 2nd Star Trophy-ette. And #11 Bell with his amazing hat trick received the 1st Star Trophy-ette.
