Two great wins this week!
Wow!  We had not one, but two exciting wins this week!  It was a great week to be on the AtoMc Red team!

The first win was a 3rd place finish in the Timbrtube Video contest, netting the team a sweet $2,500 in Source For Sports merchandise.  The contest saw 28 teams across Canada competing for a trip to the World Juniors, and while we didn’t win the grand prize, third place is awesome!  Thanks to all for their participation.  Can’t wait to have a team building event in January, when we can blow all this loot!

The second win was against the mighty Green team.  These guys play with heart, and they proved that you can never underestimate your opponent.  Even when they were down by three, they came roaring back to bring it to within one.  Without Venning in net to keep us in the game, we might have been on the other side of the scoreboard.  This is a lesson that we have to play three solid periods if we want to stay near the top of the league standings.

Earlier in the game, we saw some speedy Red forwards as well as some aggressive back checking.  One player that exhibited this was #3 Yee, who earned the player of the game.  Yee never hesitates to get in on the play and do what he needs to do to get the job done.  Way to go Jacob!

Game Recap:

Red goal #1 - Martin scores in first period.  Todd has a breakaway, but Green defense prevents him from taking a clean shot and puck deflects to the right of the goalie; Todd grabs it again and shoots to front of goalie. Thornton takes shot on net, and Martin taps in the rebound.

Red goal #2 – a few minutes into the second period, Starr clears the puck with a long shot deep in our end to the blue line.  Puck ends up back in our end; LaCoste takes it all the way and fires a mid glove side shot on net.  The puck is loose in front of the green goaltender, and Todd backhands it in.

Red goal #3 – Early in the third period, Schleimer is a bit ahead of Martin in the neutral zone; passes back to Martin, who takes the right lane in, around both Green defensemen to score a low blocker side goal.

Green goal #1 – The Green Machine (ask your parents, they probably rode one when they were kids) completely dominated us in the third.  Green #8 scoops a puck up from a 2 on 1 Red rush deep in the Green zone, and fish tails his way right back to score on Venning.

Green goal #2 – Shortly after Green goal #1, the play is in the Green end, but a Green defensemen shoots up into Red’s end.  The Greens converge on Venning, and several rebounds late the puck is in.  Four of the Green players touched this puck on its journey to end up behind Venning.  Red needs to pounce on the puck faster and clear it quickly.

Green pulls their goalie but the timeclock is on our side, and we end up with a 3 – 2 win.

We're now 7 and 3!  Way to go Red!
