Our first tournament
What a great weekend!
The team grew closer through our various events and time spent together. Other teams commented on how our team played so unselfishly like a team at this early stage of the season.
The championship game was one that we would all like to have back. The team played incredibly. We spent almost the whole game in the offensive zone and truly deserved a better ending. During the time out with 55 seconds left, I told the team that no matter the final outcome, we were the best team on the ice. We could go home proud of what we had accomplished and that all we had to do was finish the last 55 seconds the way we had played the whole game until that point. What happened with 5 seconds left was just another one of those bad bounces. We didn't deserve it but the hockey gods decided that we were to go to overtime.
What then happened in overtime was just one of those things. I think that it is good to face this adversity early in the season. We will approach every shift of every game from here on out with a new level of understanding of what it feels like to be that close. Still, even after the game, after we had lost, the team knew that they were the better team. There were no red eyes in the room, only the eyes of kids who want to get out there and play again to show that they deserved a better fate.
I am very proud of the team, the coaching staff and all the parents. What a great weekend! I look forward to spending the rest of the season with all of you.
