Congratulations to our Minor Atom Red team for winning their first Tournament of the Year, becoming Oktoberfest Champions!!
The weekend started out on Friday morning with a win versus league rivals Burlington, followed by a tough game vs. an undefeated Whitby Wildcats Team.
Falling short to the Wildcats, the boys learned a valuable lesson that you always have to come to the rink prepared and bring your best effort every shift, every game!
The Coaching staff challenged the team to bounce back and finish the round robin strong on Saturday.
The Rangers responded with two solid wins over North London and Markham earning a wildcard spot in the semis against our fellow hosts Kitchener Jr. Rangers Blue!
Down two teammates, the Red Rangers battled back and forth all game vs. Blue in an extremely close match.
With Red up 2-1 in the final minute and killing a penalty, Blue pulled their goalie and tied the game with 16 seconds left to force 4 on 4 OT!
The boys remained positive and continued to battle in OT where we eventually scored the winner, giving us a birth in the Finals!
The stage was set for a Championship game versus The Oakridge Aeros, who had eliminated Whitby in OT in their semifinal match.
Still down two players, the boys were asked to dig deep and compete for each other one last time!
Once again every player accepted the challenge and responded with a gutsy effort, leading to a 5-3 Finals victory and the right to call themselves Oktoberfest Champions!!
The coaching staff is so proud of these young men and what they've been able to accomplish in such a short period of time!!
We are very excited of what still lies ahead for this special group!
