Not all is lost from an 0 and 3 weekend!
Despite losing all 3 games at the Preston Memorial Tournament this past weekend, many positives were taken away from our trip south of the 401.

  • Puck pursuit and puck posession were the themes for the weekend. Against Barrie in game 1, it looked like the oppostion had taken our playbook, as they controlled the first period.  Our boys got beat to the puck, and gave away the puck too quickly. Things settled down in the second, we got our feet underneath us, and took the play to Barrie.  We were first to the corners and some nice passing led to a goal from Ethan S. Bounces never did seem to go our way and their goalie stopped some good chances. Unfortunately the coaches' strategy late in the game led to 2 late goals and a 4-1 defeat.
  • Game 2 against Hamilton started the same as game 1, but we recovered much quicker and had the game tied at 2 after 1 period.  With end to end play in the second and third Ryan N had to be on his game to keep us close. A disputed game winner put Hamilton up for good and eventually we succumbed 5-2.  The Blue Helmet went to Nathan D for his strong play and having his "thinking cap" on at all times. Goals were scored by Ethan R and Ethan S.
  • Game 3 against Sarnia had us up against another speedy team.  We pulled out all the stops but couldn't hold the Sting as they skated to a 4-1 victory.  Congrats to goal scorer Adam G for his rocket into the top shelf and to Blue Helmet winner and birthday boy Will "Lefty" (and sometimes Righty) S.
  • It's now into the playoff round.  Our Boys in Blue have to venture into the edges of the ice in pursuit of the puck without worrying about bumps and bruises.  Our game is to control the puck and to do that we have to get it from the opposition and find the open man.  Playoffs start on Saturday - I'm looking forward to seeing how we've grown from last weekend.
